New York Life, Accident & Health Insurance Exam: New York Law Practice Questions

Free practice questions on the New York Insurance Law and Department of Financial Services regulations tested on the New York Life, Accident and Health agent exam, with explanations and sources.

New York's Life, Accident and Health agent exam (series 17-55, 150 questions in 2.5 hours) mixes New York Insurance Law and Department of Financial Services regulations into every section rather than testing them in a separate part, according to the PSI candidate information bulletin. These topics collect the New York-specific rules the outline cites.

Steps to a New York life and health agent license

  1. Complete an approved prelicensing course: 40 hours for Life, Accident and Health (20 hours each if you take only Life or only Accident and Health).
  2. Pass the PSI exam for the lines you want (17-55 for both, or 17-51 and 17-52).
  3. Apply to the Department of Financial Services within two years of passing the exam.

Licenses are renewed every two years, on your birthday, and resident licensees complete 15 hours of approved continuing education in each two-year licensing period (Insurance Law section 2132).

New York's exam also tests the general concepts: practice them with the Life & Health topic quizzes and the 100-question practice exam.
