Steps to an Illinois life or health producer license

  1. Complete the pre-licensing course for each line: 20 hours for Life and 20 for Accident and Health, with 7.5 hours of each in a classroom or webinar (215 ILCS 5/500-30).
  2. Pass both the general and the Illinois state exam for each line.
  3. Wait five days after passing, then apply online; the license must be obtained within one year of finishing the pre-licensing course.

Licenses run for two years, and producers complete at least 24 hours of continuing education before each renewal, 3 of them in classroom or webinar ethics instruction (215 ILCS 5/500-35).

Illinois's general exams test the national concepts: practice them with the Life & Health topic quizzes and the 100-question practice exam.
